Ontology Specification Draft

Abstract back to ToC

The Fire Safety Ontology (FiSa) enables the classification of buildings and its components based on fire safety considerations. FiSa establish a fire safety perspective for buildings utilizing a combination of building codes, technical regulations, guidelines, and semi-structured interviews with fire safety planners. Subsequently, fire safety domain insights from experts were aligned to knowledge about building design from other domains, such as architecture. Through this collaborative effort and the instantiation of building data within the ontology, structural fire safety requirements from regulations were automatically inferred by reasoning with common inference engines, simulating an automatic compliance checking.

Introduction back to ToC

This is a place holder text for the introduction. The introduction should briefly describe the ontology, its motivation, state of the art and goals.

(see also §14 MBO) Escape routes are routes, e.g. corridors, staircases and exits to the outside, via which people and animals can leave structural facilities in the event of danger (in the event of fire) and bring themselves to safety (= self-rescue). Is used or can be used to unite concepts and attributes under one subject matter. Like e.g. everything that influences each other rescue concept-wise can be marked this way. Queries can be also supported. ___ Remark: This is mainly due to the conception of the ontology that knowledge is mostly inferred by reasoners and less class restrictions are used. -> Disjoint classes play a major role using complex rule sets; reasoners can be supported a bit this way. A fine mix of both makes fisa a usable scheme for compliance checks.
